The Federal Government has urged healthcare facilities across Nigeria to remain vigilant following the laboratory confirmation of an Ebola disease case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
NCDC toll-free line 6232 has been activated for reporting suspected cases
The government said the case involved a woman who recently arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda and was admitted to a private hospital in the FCT, where she received care for several days before the diagnosis was confirmed.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, and signed by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the government said the patient was currently in isolation and receiving medical care.
The statement said contact tracing had commenced, with 44 close contacts identified so far.
Public health teams are identifying and monitoring people who may have been exposed to the infection, including healthcare workers, patients, caregivers and travel contacts.
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the FCT Health Services Secretariat and other relevant authorities are working together to contain the infection and prevent further spread.
The government said it had intensified surveillance, while the hospital that treated the patient received immediate support to strengthen infection prevention and control measures.
It called on public and private healthcare facilities nationwide to remain on high alert, urging healthcare workers to promptly identify and isolate suspected cases, maintain strict infection prevention and control measures, and immediately report suspected cases to public health authorities.
“Healthcare workers must maintain a high index of suspicion, promptly identify and isolate suspected cases, observe strict infection prevention and control measures, and immediately report suspected cases to public health authorities,” the statement said.
The government also called for vigilance across the healthcare sector as public health teams continue efforts to monitor potential exposures and prevent further transmission.
The statement reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with relevant health authorities to contain the infection and protect public health.
